Complete preparation and delivery guide

What is mastering?

Mastering is the final technical and artistic polish that prepares an approved mix for release through tonal, dynamic, stereo and loudness control.

What is stem mastering?

Stem mastering works from grouped mix elements rather than one stereo file, providing additional control over vocals, drums, bass, instruments and effects.

What are the benefits of stem mastering?

Individual groups can be rebalanced or processed without affecting every other sound in the same frequency range.

Should master-bus plugins remain active?

Remove compression and limiting that only control loudness. Keep EQ or saturation only when it is essential to the intended sound and explain it in your notes.

What file should I send?

Send a WAV at the original sample rate and 16, 24 or 32-bit depth. A clean, unclipped mix is more important than achieving an exact headroom value.

Can you work with a clipped, limited or MP3 mix?

We can assess it, but a clean WAV offers more control. If MP3 is genuinely the best available source, tell us before booking.

Can I order additional versions?

Yes. Instrumental, acapella, performance, radio and extended versions can be run through the approved mastering direction for an additional fee.

How many revisions are included?

Mastering includes two grouped revisions. A changed mix requires a new pass and may carry a rerun fee.

What is a DDP?

A DDP is a production-ready package for CD manufacturing containing audio, track order, pauses, metadata and codes such as ISRC where supplied.

What will I receive?

Standard delivery includes high-resolution WAV, platform-ready WAV versions and a 320 kbps MP3. DDP can be added for CD production.

When do I pay and how should the work be credited?

Payment terms are agreed before work begins. Credit: Libelula Audio - Alejandro Malatesta, mastering engineer.
